The moment I found my hands
This was the first piece I made in the series, months before I even knew I was starting one. I’d set out to make a vase with ceramic flowers, but I couldn’t figure out the sculptural balance of the stems. I pivoted. Let go of the original idea and shaped a single bloom resting on a bowl instead. No plan, just what felt natural.
At the time, I didn’t think I was “creative.” I’d never really exercised that part of myself before. But this bowl changed something. It unlocked a side of me I hadn’t met yet. Every time I look at it, I feel that same soft surprise, like I made something that held space for joy, for calm, for a new version of myself.
It’s not bold or dramatic, it’s gentle. Quiet. Like something that arrived without needing to announce itself.
The beginning I didn’t see coming, and the softness that told me I was onto something.
